I had the pleasure of attending a special event last Wednesday evening at Glen Ridge Cooperative in Storrs to celebrate the purchase and soon- to-be installation of their new louvered pergola at the community room. There were about 100 people in attendance; including residents, family and friends who were treated to pizza, ice cream, refreshments and music from the newly named band, “The Sultans of Storrs”, three UConn professors with a passion for music and the 60’s.
This is not your average pergola with climbing morning glories or wisteria, this is a functional beauty (see company photos here). Attendance at Glen Ridge community events and dinners has been steadily growing and the outside dining space will add extra seating, protection from the elements and ambiance to these special occasions. The footings were poured today and the pergola is expected to be up and complete in late July.
If you are not familiar with the Glen Ridge Cooperative in Storrs it is a community for 55+ adults, one of only two such co-operatives in the State of CT.
This type of ownership is unique and unlike purchasing a single family residential home or a condominium. Residents at Glen Ridge are shareholders of the co-operative which own the buildings and the land it sits on.
There are no currently no available units for sale at Glen Ridge, one just closed June 18th and my listing at 3A Sycamore Drive just went under deposit. When units become available they can range in price from $100,000 to $185,000 depending on demand, location and age and condition of unit.
Glen Ridge is within walking distance to Storrs Center and the Mansfield Community Center . The new Price Chopper was an excellent addition and the bus route is also accessible. My mother-in-law lives at Glen Ridge and loves it. Here is what she said on Patch when she first moved there.
