I noticed an exciting trend this year around the holidays. My wife had mentioned to me last year that there seemed be fewer Christmas lights on Mansfield Storrs Windham area private properties every year. In the past you could drive down any rural street in the Mansfield area or city street in Willimantic and see a healthy array of lights on trees, bushes , outlining houses, barns, farm equipment, you name it.
Maybe the soaring electric rates and the struggling economy were to blame? Now we have energy conserving LED bulbs and although the economy has not recovered (we still have some pockets of declining or stagnant real estate prices in the Windham area) there is a sense of improvement.
This year I did notice several locations in Mansfield and the surrounding area where the properties were decked out for the holidays and there was a common denominator: all of the homes had new buyers!
I noticed that these addresses were familiar because I had seen them as sold and closed in the MLS in 2014. These new buyers were clearly feeling festive this holiday season in their new homes. I saw lights on newly purchased homes on Stafford Road in Mansfield, Route 89 in Mansfield, Ellise Drive in Storrs and Jordan Road in Windham. I’m sure there were others, these are just a few I wrote down.
